Working with Dynamic Templates

NOTE: The below article details this feature for our customers utilizing our Kahua for Owner’s and Kahua for GC’s applications, which excludes custom workflow or configuration. Specific customer configuration, customers utilizing other versions of these applications, or custom application features may differ in functionality or processes to those outlined below. For more details on training guides specific to your company, please check with your company IT or Domain Administrator prior to submitting a request to Kahua Support.

If a modification needs to be made to the view of any cost record, this can be done directly in the app with the appropriate permission to the app (the domain administrator would need to provide you with Moderator permission in Groups). Select Edit on the record and find the drop-down next to Template Name. Select a template other than Default. Note that not all companies will have additional Views available.

Save/Close the record after changing the template. After saving the record, next to the recently selected template, there is a pencil icon. Click on the pencil icon to edit the existing portable view.

In the example below, notice there are two different panes.

  • The view on the left (Edit View) is where you will be able to make any changes to the view for this record.
  • The pane on the right (View Only) is where you will be able to dynamically see those changes take place.

Keep in mind, anything that is “tokenized” like #1 below should be changed by updating the field on the Kahua record, NOT here in dynamic templates. However, if a formatting change or a text change for hard coded text, similar to #2 in the example, needs to be updated, this would be a great place to make that update.

After appropriate changes have taken place, click Save and Exit the view. The change you made will now be visible in your ‘View’ for this record.

Keep in mind, the change you made dynamically will not update the standard view for any new records created, only the current record. This is particularly helpful if updating legal language on a single contract, whereas other contracts should still utilize the standard template language.
